I had a similar thing happen a couple of years ago, possibly with a Soundbl=
aster card too. It seems the kids had somehow got into some advanced settin=
gs of the card's driver and selected a mode that speeds up playback.

Have you tried playing sounds from other sources, like Youtube? If they are=
n't affected then maybe it's happening at transfer time. I assume the recor=
ders themselves aren't doing it? My PCM M10 has a switch that allows playba=
ck speed to vary. Very disconcerting, but being digital it has no effect on=
ce it's transferred to a computer.

Help! I have just set up a new desktop computer with a Soundblaster X-f:
Xtreme Audio sound card. I am using Adobe Auditions 1.5 for my sound
editing. I am importing sound from my Portadisc MDP 500 or my SV 3260 DAT t=
hrough
Optical IN. (this seems to be the only option with this sound card).
However, the recordings, when played back through my computer, sound "speed=
ed
up". For vocal it is like someone has taken a slight puff of Helium gas. Th=
e
imported recordings sound fine when listened through the DAT or
Minidisc. Is there someway to "slow down" the imported sounds. Sorry for suc=
h an
amateur description, but any ideas would be most welcome.
