Marc I would not be too ashamed of your recordings they were pretty good to=
my ears. Long-distance traffic rumble and other human noise is the enemy o=
f us all, and if you get away from the cars just wait until a plane goes ov=
er. I record a lot in mountanous areas and I try to use "sound shadows" to =
reduce the effect of anthropogenic noise but it is hard (especially with lo=
w frequencies) and nature usually doesn't cooperate. As someone else here s=
tated, skillfull use of an EQ later is the best option. I use the parametri=
c equaliser in Adobe Audition.
Interesting how confusing the trims are on the FR2LE, you'd think Fostex wo=
uld explain ! I use that machine a huge amount and I have followed advice p=
icked up from this group about 3 years ago - I set the trims at about 75-80=
% then don't touch them - I find they are pain to get well balanced (left/r=
ight)and have made my own mark on them with paint, then I use the main gain=
to adjust recording levels (I am normally a hunter-gatherer using a parabo=
la so my input signals may be stronger than a static rig).
Thanks for the interesting gearslutz discussion Luiz, good to know other gr=
oups are equally confused - I have no clue on the electronic side of things=
.
