They come in handy for idents but for nothing else. However the XLR inputs give a good account with my MKH's and also my cheapo Brinibox rig as the Brinibox gain swamps the mic noise. I'm saving up for a 4-track Tascam DR-680 which has four inputs but the R-26 doesn't seem to have this. From what I can see channels 3,4,5&6 come from Hi-Z inputs and the internal mics, none of which I want to use, so my hopes that it would be a cheaper alternative to the DR-680 seem dashed.
