Thanks to George2 on Tapersection.com for bringing this to my attention.
Roland announced a new handheld recorder called the R-26 at the IBC2011 trade
show and conference, currently under way in Amsterdam. Read about the recorder
here
http://www.roland.com/products/en/R-26/index.html
The R-26 distinguishes itself by offering four inputs for audio recording:
-- a pair of mics in XY configuration on the top of the recorder
-- a pair of mics in omni configuration on the top
-- a 3.5mm stereo jack with plug in power for external mics.
-- a pair of XLR/TRS combo jacks with 48V phantom power for external mics.
The R-26 allows you to select up to three of these four inputs for simultaneous
recording. You can record 2, 4 or 6 channels, hence R-26.
Roland says the mic preamps in the R-26 are derived from the R-44, which is
supposed to imply decent quality, but could mean anything.
Competitors for the R-26 include the Zoom H4n and Tascam DR-100 multi-channel
recorders, both about $300USD. So I expect the R-26 to carry a price tag
somewhat higher than this when it appears in stores in October.
The R-26 will also be shown at the Musikmesse 2011 conference in Frankfurt next
week.
