In theory, yes it should be much the same but most video cameras have cheap=
 noisy preamps and some cameras, like the Sony Ex1 and Ex3 have auto gain c=
ircuits that cannot be defeated. In practice, most audio for video recordin=
g does not have to be that good and so manufacturers understandably prefer =
to spend money in areas that will really concern videographers. My sense is=
 any recorder, video or audio, will be OK under good circumstances and for =
conventional needs. But when one is pushing the limits, as one does often i=
n nature recording, then marginal electronics become obvious.
If you are purchasing a video camera my advice is to attend most closely to=
 the video specifications. It's rare that the audio quality will be a tie-b=
reaker. Price comes into this as well, one can find a much better recorder =
than a Zoom for twice its price but the additional $2-300 makes little diff=
erence in a professional video camera.
