Well, I tried it .... and it's going back tomorrow.
Instantly upon plugging it in it sounded noisy.
The switching channels between the MKH 40 and MKH 8070, I could hear increa=
sed hiss with the MKH8070 ( a mic that is supposed to be quieter ).
The pre-amp gains were set to produce the same level from a 1kHz tone at a =
distance from a speaker.
Here's the spectrogram ( I did a brick wall 1KHz HPF )

On the MKH 40 there's a noise band at 20kHz which I'm too old to hear.
On the MKH8070 the noise haze extends all the way down to 4kHz which I can =
hear.
I wonder if the RF drive level into the discriminator is too low.
