Many thanks for the responses to my GPS question - there is a lot of conver=
gence around your comments so it helped a lot.

John with respect to your question below I use this website to make and pri=
nt my own custom maps:

it implies that with a CHF 30 Swissmobility pass you can make some kind of =
exchange with GPS although it may only be with the coordinates rather than =
the full map. Once I have my gear I will be looking for sources and will po=
st anything I find - there was a good link in one of the replies to my mess=
age that had a map for the Valais, so check that too.
