> I have been hiking for years in northern Italy and southern Switzerland = (Ticino) during summer using a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx. I tend to hike mostly = at altitudes below the treeline, in the forest, including deep valleys, and= I've never had a problem picking up satellites. I second this. The 60CSx has a helical antenna that can keep tracking indoo= rs, under forest cover, or next to cliffs. I've been using it for several y= ears. It's best to turn it on and let it get oriented where there's a large= sky view, then it will be most able to hang on to the remaining signals in= obscured locations. -Dan |
