Hi John,
I'm using a high density open cell furnishing foam and the nose tapers inw=
ards to the front at 10 degrees on each side. The foam also extends past t=
he edge of the mic on the boundary face, with a cutout in the foam so the f=
ace of the mic is not covered. My rig is very slightly different to the PB=
B2N in that it attempts to closely follow the preferred embodiment describe=
d in Michael Billingsley's patent for a "Simulated Binaural Recording Syste=
m" rather than the production SASS. The tapered nose was a feature of the =
design described in the patent, which didn't make it to the commercial impl=
ementation. I suspect the patent describes a version that was less specifi=
cally optimised for crown pzm mics than the production SASS.
cheers
Paul
