Mark, if you're saying you have the Fostex plugged in with its power supply=
,
not battery, that's the cause of the hum. I tried recording some of my
awful beginner guitar playing a few weeks ago, with the Fostex plugged into
the wall. That translated into a very noisy recording. On battery power
the recorder works fine.
