<<Hello all, wondering if anyone has any experience with portable
power. The
'battery' that you can buy in a hardware store that gives both ac/dc
power. I
purchased one last week and want to use it for all night recording
with my
Fostex Fr2le and 2 X AT4022 mics. It's a powerpack 300 by Xantrex.
When i plug
the gear into it, there is a very (hardly audible) hum from it, >>

Does this unit provide 120 volts via an inverter? If so the hum is
caused by distortion in the 60Hz waveform which the Fostex power
supply is unable to effectively filter out. Almost no available power
inverters provide a true clean sine wave output due to the expense &
the fact that clean power is almost never an issue for the intended
application. The solution would be to find a battery source which can
directly power the DC circuits of the Fostex, bypassing the 120VAC to
12VDC (or whatever it takes) Fostex power supply.
