Hi Randy--
Ribbon mics are reputed to be very susceptible to wind, so your
windscreen is quite an accomplishment. The sensitivity of the Fathead
mics is very low compared to what nature recordists are used to. The
RODE D-PowerPlug that Cascade is promoting does seems like a good
option, especially if your recorder or external preamp can add an
additional 55-75 dB of gain. As a phantom-powered, 20dB gain preamp,
the D-PowerPlug isn't overly quiet (-116 dBu A weighted), but perhaps
quiet enough for your ribbon mics. Would be great to hear some
stereo fieldwork from your rig some time. Hope your experiment
continues smoothly. Rob D.
