Since Finder & Spotlight have been mentioned here. I've had a look at 'Tag'

I've just had a play with Tags and it's very simple to use and add tags to =
anything. Search is quick (on my small number of test files)

Also these sort of 'project' type apps like 'notebook'

There are uite a few more around with a similar function. You have all your=
 related information stored in one searchable page, with review and playbac=
k options from that page
