Hi,
I think you were addressing Thomas, first the Fostex, I own this recor=
der and dont recall any file split modes. You can set the max file size to =
be 2 or 4 GB and thats as good as it gets...

Ill also chime in with some work I did a while ago with sensitive fluxgate =
magnetometers
which is (somewhat) related to the magnetic chorus, although I dont recall =
observing any major differences between dawn and dusk, besides less interfe=
rence due to passing vehicles etc.

Earth Music: The pulsing I believe to be an artifact from the recorder with=
the tones drifting around due to the flux changes.

The USGS National Geomagnetism program has magnetometers which can be viewe=
d in realtime:

The earths field also makes some interesting images: http://www.urlme.net/b=
log/?p=3D622

BR,
Mike.

r correctly from my limited research, there is a dawn and dusk chorus in el=
ectromagnetism produced by the Earth's magnetosphere.. is this correct?

since we have sliced up the usable spectrum (even VLF?) for our own uses.

xtraordinarily hostile environment for life - even for the most hardy of ex=
ample organisms from Earth. Ultraviolet light on Earth alone is enough to d=
estroy DNA in most (but not all!) bacteria. Add to that the pressure and he=
at of an atmospheric entry and whatever organism that might have survived s=
pace must now weather a literal firestorm... not impossible, just a little =
improbable... Like I said though, I'm skeptical and need more information. =
But maybe this is a topic for another time/place :)
