Timely that you should mention electricity. I would consider a
hardware upgrade if the platform used substantially less energy and
didn't require mandatory/unnecessary software upgrades. My 2004 G5

I see the US Government has just come out with some lists of Energy

I queried only provide sleep mode power usage- not actual use
figures. This merits some more research, though. All of the eligible
