John,
I'm off to Stewart Island in July to celebrate my 40th, we're planning to spend
about a week so I can fit in some recording as well! Actually, it's pretty damn
expensive to fly down from Auckland so we decided that we may as well go for
more then a few days..
Last year I worked on a story covering the release of the first male kiwi at
the cape kidnappers santuary , according to a DOC staff member the bush should
be full of them in around 30 years if all goes well. Tawharanui has had one
that I know of released there recently also, so hopefully more kiwis will soon
get to see a real live kiwi!
