Thanks! Makes me wonder how quiet the H2's mic pre circuits are.  A
better mod might be to by-pass the mic pre circuits altogether but
that would be much more involved! ;-)

This comment makes me think that Rather than out-fitting an H2 for
line level, many recordists might prefer to use the guts from 2 Art
Phantom II units [$100USD compared to $400+ for 4 channels of Mic ->
Line amplification]  in a small module and connect 4 very low noise
balanced mics,.. The promise of approach depends on how quiet mic pre
circuit is. Rob D.
