Hi Robin--
Good question! The surface/s used do seem to impact the character of
the sound reflections but how much or to what personal preference
hasn't been closely evaluated. A surface made from foam core (art
supply store) should do a good job. You probably can't find a
commercial product or get anything faster than making it. How about
making the ~ 4" X 4" parallel boundaries out of 1/4" thick foam core
separated by a balsa wood spacer? Screw in a handle of some sort to
the balsa wood. You can make windscreens out of small food strainers
or other semi-stiff mesh-like material like aluminum window screen
and cover them with fake fur or other loosely woven fabric. There's
also tougher board-like material that is very light weight that Tom
Robinson uses. Take a picture of what you end-up with! Rob D.
