I think the DS-30 is best thought of as a note-taking machine.  It can
be useful for serendipitous recording in a pinch, but the machine's
preamp is quite noisy. If you're taking the time and energy to set up
a recording rig with a specific purpose in mind, then it's best to use
a recorder designed for the task.

I'm unclear about how you will record your subject.  Will you record
directly, or will you be recording the output from your bat detector
equipment?
