For those in the SF Bay Area, I came across this event that sounds
interesting:

Sunday, September 21
Family Explorations! Gallery of Thingamajigs
Children and Family
1=964 p.m.
You never know what you'll hear at the Oakland Museum of California.
Thingamajigs.org artists fill the museum's Natural Sciences Gallery with
a collage of sounds produced by unusual instruments created from found
materials. Follow your ears and discover amazing possibilities for
making sounds. Learn about the California Library of Natural Sounds with
Carson Bell. Make your own instrument from found materials. In
conjunction with the 11th Annual Music for People & Thingamajigs
Festival. Included with museum admission
