And I would be glad of your participation, Dan.

The term "excessive gear talk" came from over 30 odd subscribers to
the group and people I met in the field and workgroups. Before we used
to use the word "Gear" in the subject line but many have dropped that
suggestion. Personally, as a professional recordist I prefer to bounce
ideas from other professionals and enthusiasts their experiences in
the field and technical "know how" We no longer have that anymore, the
group is without people like Lang Elliott, Geof Sample, Chris Watson,
Syd Curtis, Walter Knapp, Klas Stranberg and many many more. Simply
because most of the gear talk here is never used in the field. We see
new stuff coming out all the time but when was the last new recorder
actually used where we intend it to be used?
All the microphone bench tests in the world won't give you an idea
that it will work in high humidity of freezing cold temperatures!
I just wish new recorders and microphones were tested in environmental
habitats with a sample sound-byte.
No offense was given and none taken. But as the list owner remarked to
me, we have gone off the rails quite a bit.....

I love this group and will endeavor to keep it moving along but i feel
we need a new direction for the non techies out there...
