Thanks for that information, Oryoki. I get this list in digest mode,
so I didn't see your reply until now...
Your comments about remaining as stationary as possible while
recording at altitude are worth remembering. I've had no problems with
my Nagra V making recordings on the move above 5000m, but at those
altitudes I'm not running around - the air is too thin! I have,
however, made recordings while being transported on horse and
carriage, rickshaw and jeep. In all of those cases, the Nagra V was
probably sitting on my lap.
My Nagra V came fitted with a Toshiba MK4021GAS hard disk, but I
couldn't find any specifications relating to altitude for it. I did,
however, find a Fujitsu drive rated at 10,000 feet, and a Hitachi
rated at 40,000 feet!!!!
The Toshiba drive has been 100% reliable since 2003. Nonetheless, I've
been keeping a keen eye on the compact flash replacements for 2.5 inch
drives, there are one or two on or entering the market:
