ve always remembered for some reason.
I've described the self noise of MKH that way, and it's a good
description. But I did not originate the description. It was first told
to me by Lang Elliot in relation to DPA mics which have sputtery self
noise that's quite intrusive. It's why the SASS modified is MKH-20's and
not DPA mics. Crown used to make a SASS set up to mount DPA mics and
that SASS was the start that lead to the SASS/MKH-20.

performance. I did have to send them back to Sennheiser though as one was n=
oisier than the other. This was traced to a faulty circuit board in the K6 =
module which they replaced. But all in all they seem very competent microph=
ones which, so far to my ears when phantom powered, do not add anything unt=
oward to my recordings. All at a price my wife is happy with too! :-))
They are good mics and will do the job. If you are really after the best
the MKH are the next step up in comparison. For a lot of recording
either will work. If you get out into that really quiet ambiance and try
recording the "silence" of it, then MKH is what to go with over ME.

cs but for in the meantime the ME66's and AT3032's seem just fine.
Every one of my MKH came off ebay, at well under half the usual price,
sometimes much more. So, if you don't win the lottery, haunt ebay if you
want MKH. You'll have to pass on many auctions to get the best price. It
took me many years to accumulate my MKH.
