Sound Devices announced today that they will show examples of a new 8
channel audio recorder at next week's NAB convention in Las Vegas.
The new recorder is called the 788T, and as the name implies, it has 8
inputs for analog mic or line inputs (4 full size XLR, 4 TA3). Each
input is supported by a preamp with individual gain control.
Quantization rates up to 24/48 are available. Digitized data streams
to a 160GB internal hard drive, to Compactflash, to external DVD RAM,
or any combination.
Sound Devices says the electronics of the 788T is redesigned. The
published specifications include some evidence of improvement:
A/D dynamic range 788T: 123 dB(A) 722: 114 dB(A)
Gain: 788T 76 dBu, 722 70 dBu
No EIN data was included in the 788T specifications.
The 788T is larger than the familiar 722, but not by too much.
788T: 10.0 x 6.25 x 1.65 inches, 60 oz without battery
722: 8.2 x 4.9 x 1.65 inches, 42 oz without battery
788T: 257 x 163 x 45 mm, 1700 g
722: 209 x 125 x 45 mm, 1200 g
No price or delivery date was announced.
