Sean,
The H-120 has a 3.5 mm mic in and will provide a full 2.5 Volts of power for
PIP. I have also ran an ME-66 with a K-6 on this recorder.

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm beginning to understand. The iRiver has a
line in (and
optical in) rather than a mic socket so it seems to be the case that I will
need to pre-amp any
mic I use. SO... my next question is can you get any directional mics which
have a built in
pre-amp, or can you get a portable, small, battery-powered preamp in the UK?

Thanks again for the advice so far...
Sean
