The bird I am most familiar with that has some ventriloquial qualities is the Sooty Grouse (Blue Grouse) Dendragapus obscurus. The sound seems to disperse in many directions making it difficult to pinpoint the bird. In practical terms, its difficult to know where to aim the microphone. The loudest sound is often at variance with the actual location of the bird. John Neville British Columbia Canada |
