Thanks, Phil, for the suggestions. I will forward what you said to
my employer, as he was the one who wanted to know!

As to using the Sony software. Our current mini disc unit did come
with software but it either does not give us the option to transfer
them digitally, or our mini disc is not set up correctly. It does
hook USB (I think). But when we run in a file, we currently use a
mini disc playing unit running through a small sound board. Thus we
have to wait the length of the sound file to make it digital,
something we are very tired of doing.

Thanks again.

download the files very quickly, via the SonicStage software, and is
probably the best bang-per-buck you are likely to get. Plus it has
the added advantage if you ever feel like starting recording
say 'more seriously' you have an excellent recorder to do just that
with. It is very compact and would easily slip into an inside pocket
and be completely unobtrusive. One thing you can do on it which is
really useful for long recordings is to set it to automatically
create a track mark say every 10 minutes. Then when you come to
download instead of downloading say a one and a half hour recording
you can download 10 minute chunks which can be joined together in
something like Audacity a free audio editor.

is available. Again some of these you can download to computer by
USB. But they can be two thirds the cost of say the Sony MZ RH1, I
know the Olympus recorders include a mic but you can get some very
cheap personal mics these days like this:
