I built my own condensor mics for parabolas with amazing results. Last year they spent 6 months between Cloud/Rain forest of Costa Rica and Peru. This year they are looking at seven months in the same fields. We also use a Sennheiser ME-66 that never had problems, it was not used much and kept in a Ziplock with Silica while being stored.
