The Tascam HD-P2 is a great all-around choice. With quantization rates as high as 24/192, great preamps, timecode input, SPDIF in/out, and 10 second pre-roll, the HD-P2 is in a class by itself when compared with anything for less than $1000. Speaking of preamps, Raimund Specht's tests of preamp self-noise show that the HD-P2 noise level is within 1% of the Sound Devices 722. I'd call that a tie. The HD-P2 also performed well in Rob D.'s recent comparison of recorders that cost less than $1000. The HD-P2 is commonly sold for $999. I recently saw it for $900 at The Sound Professionals. --oryoki |
