Why are you reluctant to go the FR2 route but thinking about getting
an FR2LE? They are almost the same device. In fact the FR2 can use
the PCMCIA drives. I used an FR2 that way for a year with ZERO disk
problems. I am convinced the technology is rugged enough for field use.
Anyway, I have used an SD MP2 in front of an FR2 and the results where
just what you'd expect, great sound and a slightly cumbersome rig.
The MP2's pre's are great indeed, lots of gain available and they
really seem to do well with really dynamic signals, overload is
handled with kid gloves by the superb limiter.
