The times I've checked the smoke plumes from those fires they have
generally been traveling south for some reason. But I'll admit I've only
checked a few times. Amazingly, locally there are folks burning leaves
and grass clippings that can be smoky for a short while. I'm waiting for
one of those fires to get away, always check anytime it gets smoky.
Years ago I did studies of brush fires burning on a army firing range in
eastern Washington. We modeled and detected the emissions out for over
500 miles. The fires were in the target areas in the range and you could
not go out there because of unexploded shells.
We've had nearly ten years of generally abnormally dry weather. I've
become somewhat expert at finding frogs in the dust.
It's pretty much natural long term cycles in action. Got to go through
this on our way to the next ice age.
