I snipped the coax at the mic side of the battery box on both mics
then opened the mic
took out the little PC board
reversed the red and black going from the capsule to the PC board
(i.e., reversing the polarity of the capsule)
I then stuck a stereo 3.5mm plug on the ends of both mic cables
(shields going to GND & leads going to the tip and ring of plug)
shrink tubed the cable pair to the plug
they tested fine and sounded pretty good
not to mention to boost from being powered by 9v instead of the 1.5v
battery box Realistic supplied

I'm also thinking of changing the metal plates to an acrylic/
Plexiglas ones to lessen the weight for traveling
nice to finally have portable stereo boundary mics for field recording!
