Hi evs,

I was impressed with the design and practicality of the Sanken mic a
few years back, and testing in the shop gave me the impression it was
very promising. I was told it was an MS-based design. I had up to
that time been using MKH mics. I took it home for a field test (we
live in the bush - Australia). As soon as I plugged them in in a
quiet environment I was appalled at the level of self-noise. Very
grainy and dirty hiss at levels high enough as to make this mic
totally unsuited to any quiet ambient nature recording. I made some
recordings to play to the shop assistant and he couldn't deny it but
instead suggested it may have been my pre-amps... we tried the Sound
Devices with the same result. So the mics were returned to the shop
and I am still working with MKH's.

Best

Andrew
