MKH 20 mod to 5Hz?

Subject: MKH 20 mod to 5Hz?

I recently read some info regarding MKH 20 modified to respond low to
5Hz for pipe organ recording.

any suggestion about this? What will be sacrificed? I talked to
sennheiser usa technical department. They told me it could be done but
not telling me how low it could achieve (gave me an answer of
approximate 8Hz). No loss on sensitivity and self-noise and could be
more prone to wind noise etc. If no loss on sensitivity and self-noise,
why not modify the MKH20?

I also am confused about low-frequency recording. Even if the mic could
respond to low frequency, could the recorder record that low? I check
744t recorder spec. It says preamp starting at 10Hz but starting from
20Hz for A/D stage. For those studying elephant or other low frequency,
which recorder did they use to record that low sounds? I have friends
planning in orangutan low-frequency pioneer study and we appreciate any
input.

Thanks a lot for the help.
