What kind of mic are you using?  Maybe the plugin powering is dead but
the input is still working [in effect].

I can't say I know how to crack one open and repair it.  Given Kenya's
status as location for many documentaries I am guessing there are some
tech savvy shops there.  Not sure though.  If you have a working
backup that was very smart of you.  I guess just use that.  IF you
only have a few days to go then repair would probably take that long
anyway.

Maybe call these guys for repair..?:
