Well, things are not always as one would want - even in this Gulf
Stream warmed group of islands.

At mid day today i went for a walk with my wife around the perimeter
of the small peninsula (surrounded mostly by saltmarsh) where we live.

It was an abnormally high spring tide and many geese and ducks were
enjoying their feeding on the recently flooded ground. We even saw a
couple of Marsh Harriers (rare, but possibly Hen Harriers down to the
marsh for the winter - even rarer?).

Back home I rushed theassembly of the Rapid triplets surround mic

and made sure I was back on the saltmarsh just before sunset.
Conditions seemed perfect with no wind, no significant waves -
therefore no noise of the surf.

The only problem was that there was no nature type noise. Having
taken the trouble to get there I made some surround recordings anyway.

I've not had the time to process these. However here is the first 4
minutes from the forward facing stereo pair.

It is a rather nice piece featuring me walking away from the mic
through waterlogged marsh (5 hours earlier it was under 2 feet of salt
water). I then return to the mic to clap my hands to make a reference
point for synchronising the forward and rearward facing stereo pairs.
I had forgotten to do this at the start of the recording. Maybe
hydrophones would have yielded more?

Nothing much else on the clip other than distant traffic and the ever
present sound of aircraft.

As I said at the start of this post - things don't always turn out as
one expects.

Hopefully the surround version will give a good background ambience if
nothing else.

Cheers
Tom Robinson
