You can also consider a Sony NH700 Hi-MD recorder with a mic input
for $40 more than the SP-PREAMP-8. The NH700 has an edge in terms of
mic preamp noise (~-110 dBu (tested minimum) to -105dBu) and probably
mic pre gain too. Rob D.
