I am very curious about these samples from fonozoo:
"Here are the two samples of recordings made with
The Marantz PMD 660 Oade Modified
(OadeModified.wav)
The Marantz PMD 660 out of the box (not Oade modified)
(NotOadeModified.wav)
The sounds recorded were emitted by a Aiwa AFB-7 self amplified speaker
in a semi-anechoic chamber. Recordings were made synchronously with two
microphones Sennheiser MKH 416 =96 P 48 U 3."
WHY would they record *playbacks* as a test? Does this represent
anything at all about how they would perform out in the field? Why not
make live recordings in the field? I haven't seen a real-life
comparison in any of these cases so far, though I have no doubt the
Oade mod is much better...
When I want to compare similar pieces of gear I would never even think
of recording a playback except as a casual preliminary check before
doing real-world tests. Is it a normal practice? I can see some merit
in the consistency, but it seems a flawed procedure to me... Over the
years I have tested my own gear when new, but always found out much
more about it in real-world uses than in this kind of testing, so I
wonder why there are not published comparisons done in the field (or
did I miss them?).
