The concert taper guru Doug Oade offers an upgrade for the HD-P2 that is specifically designed to meet the needs of nature recordists. Oade's web site states: "The HDP2 Super MOD adds 6dB of gain, increases clarity and detail for enhanced performance in Nature and Ambient recording, FX or any application that requires high gain and low noise." The price of an HD-P2 with the Super Mod is $1300 plus shipping (approximately $1000 for the HD-P2 and $300 for the mods). This sounds like a winner, particularly if you need (or think some day you may need) the HD-P2's timecode sync capability. The least expensive Sound Devices recorder with time code is the 702T, about $2375. --oryoki |
