Thanks Bruce, Phil, and Rob.
I'm now thinking it might have been only in the ungrounded headphone
line as Bruce pointed out. Listening to my recordings from that
session, I do not notice any of the static noise I heard in the field
so now I'm hopeful it had no effect on the recording. Phil's point is
also well taken since I have never cleaned my connectors with anything
stronger than the corner of my shirt. Would Isopropyl alcohol rather
than denatured alcohol work for this?
If I notice the problem again I will definitely try to record some,
and do more extensive trouble shooting.
