I note that while the Shure VP-88 is an MS microphone, the MKE44 is an XY m=
icrophone.
The alternative of the Sony ECM-MS957 has ocassionally come up. I haven't =
personally had any experience with it, although I'd like to. It's hard to =
even find a decent listing of the specifications. There's very little wort=
hwhile on the USA sonystyle web site. But I did find this:
http://www.ecat.sony.co.jp/avacc/mic/acc/index.cfm?PD=3D883&KM=3DECM-MS957
and this:
http://www.ecat.sony.co.jp/products/catalog/AVacc_sou.pdf
on the sony japan web site. At least I now know that the sensitivity is -4=
2 dBV/Pa (about 8 mV). And from the maximum input spec of 115 dBV and the =
dynamic range of 90 dB, I assume that the self-nosie is 25 dB. Of course, =
you know what they say about assumptions...
And it has a 5-pin XLR (which they don't tell you on the US web site), and =
the mid element is mechanically rotatable, so that you can use it either in=
end-address or side-address mode. I like that last bit.
Is there anyone in the SF bay area who has one, and would like to have it m=
easured?
