Just a note, it's not the age of broadband. Broadband is common in
business, government and universities, but individuals in the majority
still use regular modem. (in my case not only modem, but through a phone
system who's equipment and lines are more than 30 years old) Broadband
is still too expensive for general use so unless your business is
willing to pay for your home connection, you pay a bunch.
Many people do their personal internet from work, of course. Just look
at the slowdown in activity on this group on weekends. Typical of all
the groups I belong to.
I'm careful with my Frogs & Toads of Georgia website to keep the
bandwidth requirements down. Individuals figuring out what they have
calling at their home are my primary users. Or schoolkids doing
homework. Spreading interest in the natural world is one of my goals. I
worry far less about the university and government types that use my site.
Note the state of Georgia has installed software on their computers that
stops mp3s from being downloaded. So the folks I work with at DNR cannot
even play the call recordings on my site unless they do so on their own
computers at home.
