The integrated circuit with pre and ADC in the Hi-MD that we just discussed cost Sony well under $6/unit (as Klas observed, long ago). The FT-2LE's pre should have excellent noise performance and high gain if the unit is designed by a skilled audio engineer with an understanding of field recordists needs (as Dan observed, long ago). XLR phantom powering, USB 2.0 uploading, 24 bit recording-- these features are clearly worth $200 more. I'm still not that crazy about spending so much money on recording media, or having to constantly off-load in the field. I'd much rather have an internal 40 or 60GB 2.5" drive. Rob D. |
