Sorry to hear about your frustrations. Its best  to always plug your 
headphones into the recorder's headphone jack.

Isn't the K6 supposed to allow for either phantom or battery 
powering? I don't own one but the K6 pdf says.

"The K6 powering module...can be powered either by its internal 'AA' 
size  1.5 V battery or by 12 - 48 V phantom power. So all you need is 
a battery."

My suggestion of HiMD on this string read:

There are four (stereo) commercial units that I know of that work 
with HiMD PIP mic inputs. The two least expensive are the Rolls PB224

The _monaural_ PB23 unit will probably work, though I have not tested one yet:

One also needs an adapter cable to get from the phantom supply's XLR 
outputs to the HiMD's mic input. A 2-XLR3F->1/8" (or 3.5mm) stereo 
miniplug "Y" adapter cable works. One can make this or buy it.
