Hi Derek--
I own a pair of KA 100 DK/603A's. (they we're the "bird feeder"
looking quad rig you saw). They spec at: 14 dB(A) and 12 mV/Pa but
I'm confident my pair have closer to 20 mV/Pa sensitivity.
They are extremely easy to mount and walk around with. For stereo, I
spread them apart 13" and angle them at 135 degrees. Noise-wise,
they do seem to have about 4-5dB more noise than MKH-20's as the spec
suggests and on par with AT-3031's (except their high end is less
grainy and the bottom end is fuller. (I've used 3031's with the
MBHOs, in quad, a few times). The capsules withstand air-borne
moisture quite well; I've run them all night in wetlands many times.
They're hard to find used which is often an indication of
satisfaction. I've not used their figure 8 capsule. Rob D.
