Some research brought me to the selection of MBHO microphones at Cascade
Media:

The specs on the omni capsules seem very quiet and flat for the price
range. They even have one which is designed for outdoor distance
recording (a slight bump in the high end response). They claim a 14-19
dB SPL, depending in the preamp body used, which sounds alright. You can
find specs on some of these mics here:

I would consider getting the figure-8 capsule along with an omni and
maybe a hypercardioid (for sampling) and two bodies, but I'd like to
hear what you all know about them. Has anyone tried these mics and can
say a bit more about them? How do these stack up against the Schoeps MK
or the Sennheiser MKH series mics. Also, do people think they might have
the same humidity vulnerabilities as the Schoeps mics?

best,
d.
