HI-MD setup (((((Help Needed))))

After reading a lot of messages from this board, it looks like the
majority of your setups consist of a MD or HIMD setup.=20

I've decided to get a Sony MZ-M100. Is this good choice for a first
recorder.=20

I want to record waves, rain, and anything else i find on my weekly
wilderness adventures.  What is a good solid setup?  Mic, preamp(if
needed), Phantom Power(don't know too much, just here it a lot), etc.

Please help.
