I recently purchased a Sony MZ-RH10 Hi-MD. When testing it with Klas'
EM23 mics, the RH10's constant spinning noise occurring every few
seconds was picked up by the microphones into the recordings. The mics
are about 3 feet from the recorder. Recording level is 20-23. The noise
is so obvious. I expect that even I put the recorder in my pocket, the
noise will still be picked up by sensitive mics such as EM23 and WL183.
Furthermore, I need to look at the screen to monitor recording levels. I
won't put it in my pocket most of the time. Given these spinning noises,
I almost think that it is useless for quite soundscape recording. For my
applications, the mics won't be more than 5 feet from the recorder. The
spinning noise will be recorded. I have no such problem with my Sharp
DR7. DR7 is quiet during recording. Any one has such issues? Or is my
unit a fault one? I wonder why the noise did not occur in Rob's NH900
recording test with NT1a. Thanks a lot for the help.
