I don't have the time to completely delve into this issue right now, but ju=
st to bring attention to the legal aspects of playback and the endangered s=
pecies act.
If you conduct playback on any threatened or endangered (or candidate) spec=
ies, unless you have a 10a permit from US Fish & Wildlife, then you are "ta=
king" that species. Any take is a violation of the law.
Other species it is a matter of ethics. Remember as the population of birde=
rs increases, so does the intentional or unintentional harassment of wildli=
fe. Most of us prefer not to harm what we love but in our quest to see or h=
ear it may do so. I spend a lot of time in the field mimicking the species =
I hear and find it fun to get them to respond but stop the game at the firs=
t response, except in the case of ravens, I can carry on long conversations=
 with those suckers! ;-)
