I think the only recorder that meets all these criteria
is a Hi-MD minidisc machine: cheap, lightweight, durable,
power-efficient, records in digital form, easy to translate
the recordings and put on a web page.

The requirement most difficult to meet is the ability to record
continuously for many hours. Hi-MD offers two options for long
recording sessions: Hi-SP (8 hours) and Hi-LP (34 hours) on one Hi-MD
disc. Hi-SP sounds very good, similar to the best MP3.

Providing the Hi-MD machine with power for 8 hours is accomplished by
using the external AA battery case. Sony says the combination of
internal battery plus external AA will record Hi-SP for about 12 hours.

If you choose Hi-LP, you will need to create an external battery pack
that can hold larger batteries. This battery pack will attach to the
Hi-MD machine through its USB port.

Sony's Sonic Stage software is necessary to transfer the Hi-MD
recordings from the minidisc machine to your PC. Sonic Stage can also
translate the Hi-SP recording into MP3 for web sharing.
